Elk Commmunity Services District

The Elk Community Services District (ECSD) was formed in 1990 to provide a reliable tax-based source of funding for the Elk Volunteer Fire Department and expansion of services to the Cameron and Greenwood Road areas.

The ECSD is a public governmental agency that levies a "special tax" on property parcels, with structures, in the District. These tax revenues support fire protection and ambulance services within the District and pay for insurance (property/liability, workers‘ compensation and vehicle), utilities, maintenance, supplies, annual audit fees, training, special licensing fees and office expenses.

As the governmental agency, the ECSD holds title to all equipment and property utilized by the Elk Volunteer Fire Department. The District arranges for the purchase of new equipment and vehicles by securing and paying bank loans. To improve overall service to residents and visitors, the District actively seeks grant funding.

The ECSD has entered into mutual aid agreements, through which fire fighting and ambulance services are provided outside the District when called for by other agencies.

The ECSD is governed by an elected five-member Board of Directors. Each director serves a four-year term without compensation. The District has no employees. The Board meets at 7:00 p.m. on the 2nd Thursday of the month at the Firehouse at the Greenwood Community Center located at 6129 S Highway 1. Agendas are posted at least 72 hours in advance of each meeting at the Community Center, Elk Store, Elk Garage, and Post Office. The public is welcome at all meetings.
